Having been working in the video business since 1988 I have amassed a great amount of knowledge of both the kit and production values over the last 30 years.

  1. The easy rig vest costs £2400. Ouch! Add that to the cost of the Ronin and it is starting to become a very expensive set up. Having lifted a Ronin I can see that a vest like this would be essential because of the weight. Adding the vest is another bit of kit which needs to be carried to every shoot and the size of the Ronin’s case is unbelievably big. I’m looking for a 3 axis gimbal and based on this, it seems clear that the Movi would be a much more sensible (and lighter) option – cheaper too because you don’t necessarily need an easy rig vest.

  2. Hi Philip, thanks for the endorse on Linkedin.

Saw you out the corner of my eye at the Science Centre on Tuesday, and would have said hello, but looked at one camera and you were gone! haha.

I’m a long time viewer of your website and enjoy your reviews, like that you are not shy of telling off the big boys about design flaws in their kit! (I’m personally shocked at those 2 cables (handgrip and viewfinder) on the Sony FS7. The Mighty Sony…is that REALLY the best you can do with ergonomic cable management? sitting 45 degrees across the G lens? They make proper shoulder-mount cameras for gods sake!

Anyway, keep up the good work, very informative.

HDW : Sorry we did not bump into each other. PS. I nabbed your funny Canon video for my NAB rumour post.
