Yesterday was the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park where Celtic played Inverness Caledonian Thistle to win 3-1. During the live broadcast we had live inserts from the Freely Alta X drone which was 0.322km from Hampden Park.
The drone in question was a Freefly Alta X with a GH5s mounted on a 5 axis Freefly Movi Carbon gimbal with a Fuji 20-120 T3.5 lens.
The drone itself was a beast mind you with a GH5s and a 20-120 PL mount lens with all the zoom/focus facilities it’s not surprising. Remembering the micro 4/3 sensor gives a 2x crop factor gives you a 40-240 which is perfect for long distance filming.
Todays pilots were were Kenneth Sands and Will Coldwell working for BatCam and BBC Scotland.
The Freely Alta X with 2 batteries weighs a whopping 19.5kgs, my DJI mini 3 Pro weighs just 249 grams.
The batteries for this monster were massive compared to my DJI mini 3 Pro batteries.
So how do they get their feed over to the OB truck. The drone has a transmitter on board and sends the pictures directly to the truck at Hampden.
