A solid-state battery (SSB) is a type of battery that replaces the liquid or gel electrolyte used in conventional lithium-ion batteries with a solid electrolyte.
Donut Lab says it has developed what it calls the world’s first production-ready all-solid-state battery — branded the “Donut Battery.”
The battery reportedly delivers ~400 Wh/kg energy density — higher than typical lithium-ion cells — and can charge from 0 % to 100 % in about 5 minutes.
It’s claimed to have a very long cycle life (up to ~100,000 cycles) and excellent performance across extreme temperatures.
Donut Lab positions this battery as already being integrated into production vehicles, most notably electric motorcycles from Verge Motorcycles.
This could have major implications for everyone who uses batteries daily or professionally. Your iPhone could charge in seconds, Your camera batteries would always fast charge in minutes not hours. No more 80% nonsense in EVs. Lion batteries would be a thing of the past. Drones could not only fly for longer but charging would be in minutes. This news is a game changer but so far I have not seen anyone independently verifying this news.
