Speaking to Octica the distributers this seems a perfect solution for the FS7’s remote arm as it makes it tool-less. At the moment if you want to extend the arm on your FS7 you need to carry a flat headed screwdriver, which is far from practical.

This is a neat solution and I recon many FS7 owners will be heading to H Preston Media or Production Gear  who are main dealers for Octica.

Please note : This item is not in stock yet so if you want to see the new arm you need to head to BVE in London on the 24th of February at Octica’s stand H26.

Having been working in the video business since 1988 I have amassed a great amount of knowledge of both the kit and production values over the last 30 years.

  1. there is also the zacuto thing (USD1,200).

but I was thinking about a baseplate and attach the arm to it instead of the base of the camera. My proble would be that I shoot mainly on a tripod and the arm comes back a ‘lil too far for comfort.

so with a base plate and 2 rods the arm moves forward and could extend less when put to the back when on tripod.

looks good and the top plate can also slide a bit left are right.
attaching the arm to a rod could be done with a rod adaptor

the cost should stay within 150bucks or something…

    what you think?

  2. Interesting to see the hoops FS7 owners are going through.

I can see great value for on-shoulder recording with SHAPE. I don’t particularly like the look of the hanging curly-cable.

As for tripod use, I think Sony could have provided a way to clip their remote onto a telescoping tripod area.

Hard to judge from the video what the small shoulder mount footprint feels like. I would have expected a plate that slides back a bit.

I suppose the owners will all get used to the Sony Remote Arm.

My only negative comment on the Shape FS7RH is “ouch”.

HDW : I am not a fan of the 2.5mm jack plug and curly cable but you can’t have everything.
