This is the story about Operation Luna, not the one from the 1950s BBC audio science fiction series but the camera arriving June 2026.
There has been a fight between Insta and DJI over their gimbal cameras. The Insta 360 Luna Ultra and the DJI Pocket 4 Pro. Sadly for DJI they did not apply soon enough for the FCC approval needed to sell the camera in the USA. Its a massive market to loose especially when the Insta 360 Luna Ultra had not only applied but got approval.
I have a Insta 360 Luna Ultra on order which I will blog about after it arrives. I had made up my mind that the Luna Ultra was my next camera as I already have the DJI Pocket 4, I could not justify the DJI Pocket 4 Pro. The detachable screen on the Luna was a deciding factor though one reviewer on YouTube noted “What happens if you lose the detachable screen” a very good point, will Insta have a way of purchasing the screen itself as the camera is useless without the screen. It would be advisable to take out the 2 years insurance Insta offer.
Other Deciding factors
The pictures from various YouTubers are stonking, as good as DJI or better.
The one inch sensor for the wide shot will be great for lo light filming.
8K 25p will be interesting I have only cut in on a 4K picture on an HD timeline, so it will be a new adventure to cut in on a 8K frame.
It actually looks better than the DJI Pocket 4 Pro and less cumbersome.
Even if I wanted the DJI Pocket 4 Pro its as yet unavailable ???
