After some bartering with WEX, I decided to trade in an older GH5 and a 10-25mm f1.7 lens for a new Lumix S5.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence the S5 is slightly smaller than the GH5. The main difference being the full frame sensor which even with the kit lens 20-60mm f3.5-5.6 gives you a decent shallow depth of field something you don’t see with the GH5.

Panasonic PSU for the S5 battery charger

Who in their right mind designed a power supply like this that covers the adjacent 13 amp socket !

I still don’t like the mini HDMI socket on this camera but as its mainly for photography I can put up with it.

I love the red rectangle around the LCD that shows you its in record mode. My camera did not come with this as its off by default in the menu.

Once you dig into the menu and find the Red REC Frame Indicator its a matter of switching it on.

The 20-60mm lens is a great starter lens f3.5-5.6mm a lot lighter than my last L lens the 24-105mm f4 lens.

So what’s the future for the GH range of cameras.
My personal opinion is that Panasonic have brought the micro 4/3 line as far as they can go technically and are trying to sway GH5 owners across to the full frame set of cameras.

I don’t think we will see a GH6 6K micro 4/3 camera as I think all the efforts are now going towards the full frame cameras.

At the last count there is 32 L mount lenses to choose from.

I must thank my friend Stewart for lending me his Lumix S5 for a couple of days last week.

Here is a great 3 minute comparison video I found on YouTube.

Having been working in the video business since 1988 I have amassed a great amount of knowledge of both the kit and production values over the last 30 years.
