Please be aware that Matt was given rightly or wrongly a prototype to “play” with so his first impressions relate to using this camcorder within his own field of expertise.

Matt “This video had to be mostly about what is 4K, because unfortunately my review unit was a hand built prototype – the image quality had not been finalised and was not representative of the final quality. I could ingest it, play with it, test the workflow, make ‘eyeball’ judgements about things like dynamic range, but we were holding out for a software update that would bring the image quality up to where it should be – and that happened at IBC. So you’ll have to wait a little longer for ‘real’ image quality.”

Having been working in the video business since 1988 I have amassed a great amount of knowledge of both the kit and production values over the last 30 years.

  1. I truly wish I had not seen this.

Up to now, I had regarded 4K as a nuisance. Unfortunately I have to agree with many of the points highlighted in the video.

    Looks like a great camcorder.

I wonder what Panasonic’s response is going to be to this new Sony product.

  2. Thanks for this video mostly about what is 4k,
But about this camera, What is the resolution? ISO? picture quality?

Yes it’s 4K, but how does it stand compare to good Full HD camcorder as the PMW 300?

  3. @VisionRouge – This video had to be mostly about what is 4K, because unfortunately my review unit was a hand built prototype – the image quality had not been finalised and was not representative of the final quality. I could ingest it, play with it, test the workflow, make ‘eyeball’ judgements about things like dynamic range, but we were holding out for a software update that would bring the image quality up to where it should be – and that happened at IBC. So you’ll have to wait a little longer for ‘real’ image quality.

  4. I have the same questions than VisionRouge….
all the pictures i’ve seen till now move extremly slowly: what happens when i move faster?
And what happens in low-light situations?

  5. I see the z100 has a 20x zoom….can you control it via manual (PRO) focus and zoom KNOBS on your tripod arms for ENG-corporate shows etc. ?
