CF-35-Aug09-web

The last camcorder to come from the Canon Professional stable was the Canon XL-H1s during April 2008…16 months ago…what are Canon playing at there is a need to fill a very large hole in the film like stable and your counterparts in the 35mm stills department have unearthed this hole with the introduction of the Canon 5D Mk11 and more recently the Canon 7D.

Are Canon VideoPro influenced by their stills department…I hope not. HDV is a dying format and a very poor one technically so Canon Professional must have an SDHC or a CF camcorder soon. The market is screaming out for a true video version of the 5D Mk11.

A camcorder that will take all your EF series lenses allowing shallow depth of field (SDoF)…Solid State (SDHC or CF)…2-4 tracks of audio with XLRs…Radical chip sensor not unlike the 21mp sensor found in the 5D Mk11 for that film look (SDoF) and good low light capabilities…A Hi Rez colour viewfinder as seen on the Sony EX-3… Proper shoulder mount would be an advantage as shoulder mounting camcorders are few and far between… Decent tripod mount.

I have made a similar plea a few months back hoping Canon would get the message.

  1. First of all I would like to say that I am a big fan of canon. I have canon camera since 3 years and now I want to update my camera means I want to purchase a new camera!Actually I want to make carrier in Photographer ! I am right now at initial stage! Standing at the initial stage, this camera is perfect for me! I like features of this camera so I am going to purchase this camera on this weekend only!

  2. I agree with everything except the shoulder mountability of the XL chassis. I owned an XL once and found the shape extremely constraining. Indeed, the shape of a Scarlet or any “smallish” box that can have mounting accessories added to it make it more versatile.
Good work though! Canon should pay close attention to your mock-up.

  3. I also hope that Canon does not use the same form factor of the XL H1 cameras. Not only are they awkward but ugly! Same with the Sony EX3. Either make a very compact body like the Panasonic HPX 170 or go shoulder mounted like the JVC HDV cameras. My wish list – XLR audio with high quality audio circuits, re-designed lenses with greater throw for focusing, sdi output, good viewfinder with numbers for focus and focal distance, histogram and focusing aids, smooth f stop movement, built in ND, in other words, a good video camera!
