It seems like this blog is turning out to be an Intimation blog for the death of various people.
David Stuart Martland or DSM was a big player in professional video battery supply in the UK, I have at least eight V-Lock batteries made by DSM. (Still working after ten years).
Dave as he was known, was an advocate of using the best batteries in his power blocks and insisted on using Panasonic.
I remember meeting Dave down at Haydock Park in 2011 at the BPV North Show then taking a few of us out that evening for a wonderful local curry.
Dave liked a natter on the phone and at least twice a year would phone me to tell me how he and his good lady Lena were getting on. He was a wonderful friendly character and we had some good laughs over the phone telling me that his best customer Swiss Television had just put in a good order and that should see them till the end of the year.
The Broadcast Photo Video show in 2011 was an experiment and only happened once it was the brainchild of Dave who sadly does not appear in this video.
UPDATE for funeral
The date of David’s funeral will be the 26th of October at 1pm at St. Helens Crematorium, Rainford Rd, St. Helens WA10-6DF
Sorry to read the article. Often wondered what DSM stood for – I use a DSM PSU AC-60 daily to power a Sony PXW-X400, always appreciated how well it’s built (it’s ancient and slightly the worse for wear but 100% reliable). Camera, etc is used for SIS/NEP Connect work.
HDW : Yes even I did not realise DSM was Davids full name till he passed away.
R.I.P David from the Swiss Television in Geneva
I am so saddened to hear my dear friend Dave has passed away. We had great times together when I worked at MediaCityUK.
God bless you my old friend. Ian…
