Remember the industry standard tripod plate we have been buying for the last 10 years, with a 1/4″ screw and a 3/8″ screw…well NO LONGER !!!
Seems like the Italians have lost their 3/8″ drill bit and no longer supply new 2016 tripod plates with 3/8″ screws any more but now supply a more sexy 3/8″ tripod adapter, if you have ever used this adapter you know its a bad idea !!!
Dear Manfrotto take it from me…HD Warrior who is a big fan of your goods…stop the rot NOW, this is such a bad idea most professional camcorders use both the 1/4″ and the 3/8″ tripod screws. Do NOT take the idea from your younger designer that we are all using DSLRs now or we may be forced to source the Chinese alternative.
It’s worth mentioning that the Vinten Blue I bought a few years ago came with the same type of plate – no 3/8ths or a pin, and there’s no rubber lock to keep the 1/4 thread in either so it just falls out!. The plate isn’t compatible with the Manfrottos of course. You can’t remove the bowl on the head, the spirit level has always been wrong, and it leaks grease now too!
Of course Vitec own Vinten and Manfrotto.
Hi Guys
I seccond that emotion, as a long-time Manfrotto fan, I cry when I think how much I spent on their gear over the years, 3/8″ is ESSENTIAL, yes you May be able to make a complete movie with a DSLR, provided of course one festoons it with so much extra “junk” it looks like a flaming Christmas tree, but what is wrong with using the right tool for the job ie a movie or ENG camera, and if you are among the vast majority of established pro’s doing that you need your 3/8″ mounting screw, and it should be captive, why would you want to remove it when they are so neccessary?, Imagine Bill Vinten’s reaction to this!, we should start a pettition
