Shocking weather up in Glasgow these past weeks, hampering my JVC GY LS-300 FW update review but its not all doom and gloom, while waiting for the weather to get better I bought the Sigma ART 18-35mm f1.8 Canon fit lens.
I already own the 60mm Sigma ART prime lens and its a cracking lens…as sharp as a tack, so it was no surprise to find the new 18-35mm lens just as sharp.
The Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 is the first lens you should buy for the JVC LS-300 as it gives you the following…
18-35mm x 1.5 crop = 27-52mm (35mm) plus the 2.3x digital zoom = 62-120 at f1.8
With one lens you can have a 35mm equivalent crop factor of 27mm up to 120mm at f1.8
Please remember you will need a Canon to m4/3 adapter like the Metabones speed booster to use the Sigma lens. The Speed Booster will reduce the crop factor to 0.7 plus gain one stop of light.
Can you use this crop lens with a Speedbooster? I discounted it for my FS7 with Metabones Speedbooster as I thought you needed an EF full frame lens for the 0.71x ‘boost’? A super lens by all accounts but got the EF 16-35 L with IS – its a bit unkind on faces mind unless you are very centered om subject and very much on eyeline height.
I don’t understand why you add the crop factors.
It should be x1,5 crop if you shoot in HD, and x2,3 crop if you shoot in 4K, like on every m4/3 camera, isn’t? Or did I missed something?
Concerning the Metabones, there are two adapters : Speedbooster with a 0,7 reduction of the crop factor and the gain of one stop of light, as you said, but also the Smart Adapter with no reduction of the crop factor and no change with the iris, which can be useful for wildlife shots for instance.
By the way I’m worrying about the built quality of this camcorder. When I had the opportunity to touched it the plastic made a cracking noise. Seemed fragile to me… Could you give us your opinion on this point in your review? Thank you and Merry Christmas!
You can always use the speedbooster on APSC lenses and shoot with the VSM set to m43. You gain the stop and still can shoot 4k.
I’m still in love with this camera, the Jlog looks beautiful and soon will be mine.
