Radio Mics are always handy in independent production
I’m liking that USB connection for power. Sounds odd to attach a power cable to a wireless pack, but I can think of many scenarios where this would save bacon.
I’m presuming these are UK legal – anyone know if they are legal to use around Europe? Elsewhere? LOL – fat chance.
Still, another box to tick at BVE – along with the inevitable ‘how much?’
Hi Matt, the USB power is for powering the wireless RX from the USB on the camcorder, which is quite unique and money saving! You can also use it to charge NiMH batteries if they are being used (for the TX). The product can be used in UK. In other countries its best to check with the local frequency band manager. For pricing its best speak to your friendly Sony Professional dealer.
Not quite in the same league as these radio mics, but the Japanese SONY consumer site is advertising the new bluetooth transmitter and receiver sets. The ECM-AW4 now comes in black, is a tad smaller than its predecessor, but the biggest news is that the transmitter now also comes with a 3.5mm mic jack input which seems to support plugin power. The product will be available in March and reviews will become available after that I suppose. Would perhaps be useful for international productions!
to charge rechargeable AA batteries the USB port or wall adapter must supply at least 1A (many wall and car chargers are only 0.5A and will not charge batteries in the unit). A 0.5V adaptor will power the unit but you must remove the tray. I also find that the ultimate lithium (9x) last forever (50 hrs on paper and it sounds about right to me LOL never remember to reset the time when I put a new set) . Lots of options with this new Sony UHF , like the phantom on the plug-on. I didn’t even know about it when I bought it, and the ability to connect a shotgun for some particular sound or in emergency is a great added feature!
In any case the USB charging thing works for the RX,TX and plug-on. Al with the same min. 1/A to charge rechargeable batteries.
