Not owning a Canon 5DMk111 its impossible to comment on the “light leak” problem but having just spoken to Canon UK the understanding is that if you have a 5DMk111 with the serial numbers mentioned below Canon UK will repair the fault under warranty. NOTE : The updated firmware V 1.1.2 does not address this problem. (Note. Yesterday I had an email from Canon UK telling me that the new firmware addresses the light leak problem, sorry to all who read this genuine mistake).

FAQ: EOS 5D Mark III – Quality Issue Announcement

Concerning the EOS 5D Mark III digital SLR camera, when the LCD panel illuminates in extremely dark environments, the displayed exposure value may change. Canon has decided on our service policy to address this phenomenon, so we would like to inform you of the details as described below.

Affected Products
EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR Camera whose sixth digit in the serial number is 1 or 2.

For example, “xxxxx1xxxxxx” or  “xxxxx2xxxxxx” (x represents any optional number)

Cause

In extremely dark environments*, if the LCD panel illuminates, the displayed exposure value may change. However, when shooting with a lens attached, this change in exposure value will not significantly affect the shooting results.

2. When the lens cap is attached

The new firmware has been posted by Zacuto to update their EVFs and we now have metering…fantastic !  Using it with the Sony FS100 now gives you -24dB, -12dB and 0dB, something badly missing from the Sony LCD.

Sadly you still can’t monitor 1080 50p but I am sure this will come in a further update.

Firmware 1.01.00 includes the following updates:

-Audio meters enabled that are able to be positioned in any of the four corners.
-Battery meter can now be positioned in any of the four corners
-Audio loop through enabled
-Underscan now implemented
-Can now save and recall Chroma, Contrast and brightness settings as presets.
-Changes to color, brightness and contrast are now saved on power down and return on power up.
-Red One, Sony FS100 scaling presets added
-Various glitch and bug fixes

I was a bit slow on the uptake on this one but my good friend Richard Payne pointed me in the right direction, Panasonic have updated the firmware on the AF101 and have done the following improvements :

Here are a couple of tips…

1. You can not do anything till you run the camera from the mains.

2. Mac users need to install a patch which gets rid of a duplicated file, Panasonic provide the patch.

3. Your LCD will go blank for about 2mins then a message will appear “UPDATING SYSTEM PLEASE WAIT” this will continue for about 8-10mins then your LCD will return to normal.

A new firmware is now available for the NEX-VG10 for both PC and MAC. I have already tried it out on my review VG10 and it updates to V0.2 firmware. You must have the camcorder connected to the mains or it wont proceed. You connect your PC or MAC to the camcorder via the USB cable provided and follow the on screen instructions.
