HDW : It’s a disgrace that Matrox have taken this long to bring video editors up to speed, I covered this topic back in June 2012 then decided to jump ship during August 2012 and bought a BlackMagic Design Intensity Pro card and sold my Matrox MX02.

If you need to ingest anything other than card like an older SVHS tape you still can’t do this with a Matrox MX02 that’s where BlackMagic play a big part in giving you the added software of Media Express that allows you to import footage from any analogue and digital tape source via a break out cable.

  1. I have been using a Matrox MXO 2 mini with Max for 2 years now. I started using it on Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. Back then there was an unified driver for Final Cut Pro 7, Premiere Pro CS5 and Media Composer 5. They also provided a stand-alone capture application called Matrox Ventura Capture. When Final Cut Pro X, Premiere Pro CS6, and Media Composer 6 were released, there was no unified software so I had to install the specific version software for the NLE.

Now I’m currently using the unified drivers with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and Avid Symphony 6. So far all is good. The only thing missing is the support for Final Cut Pro 7. They don’t have a stand-alone video capture application anymore. I wish they have something like the Blackmagic Media Express. The Matrox Ventura Capture did not look serious but it did the job. If you want to capture from tape now, you have to do it from withing the NLE.

  2. I’d hardly call it a disgrace, after all these are free driver and firmware updates on a 5 year old product.

I’d like to see you plug your Intensity Pro into a laptop and take it on the road with you.

    Different strokes…

HDW : 7 months after BlackMagic and no chance of importing digital or analogue tape…it’s a JOKE !

  3. This latest unified drivers release still doesn’t help me, as I’m still using Final Cut Pro 7. If it included FCP7 too, my problems would be answered. For now, it’s uninstall and reinstall between software.

  4. Hi,

Have anyone is capturing SD video through a matrox MX02 in FCPX 10.1.3. I can not see the camera in the import window. Thank you.
