Finally and not a day too soon I have my hands on the Canon XF100, build quality is very good in fact having a permanently attached handle does give me more confidence that my audio is not going to fail me some time in the future, more about that in my review.

Why the 100 and not the 105, having lived with the FS100 with HDMI you learn to live without SDI, I was not prepared to add a further £300 onto the price of a camcorder just to get one SDI, timecode and genlock socket that I would never use especially when the 100 and 105 are the same apart from those 3 connectors, I only wish all other manufacturers thought the same.

“The first thing that strikes you about the two cameras is the lens itself”…just a wee teaser for my review coming soon.

Having been working in the video business since 1988 I have amassed a great amount of knowledge of both the kit and production values over the last 30 years.

  1. What is your experience with delivery of nx70’s? i have one on order, but the thailand flooding seems to have wiped out any trace of them on the dutch market 🙁

  2. It’ll be interesting to hear your thoughts, Philip. To be perfectly honest, I am starting to dislike my NX70. And it’s all down to the lens.

The soft corners are one thing, but the Chromatic Aberration is absolutely CRAZY at times for a £2500 camera. My Panasonic HMC41 was over £500 cheaper and it had a better lens on it – and these problems are widespread on the NX70, it’s not just me.

It’s a shame, because everything else about the NX70 is great for me – form factor, weatherproof, features.

I’m seriously considering a Panasonic AC130. It’s maybe time to get back to a bigger camera with proper controls and built-in ND filters.
