Specific video features…

Improved movie mode with reduced artifacts and moire, no line skipping, better low light performance, no file size limitation, SMTPE compliant time code, on screen audio meter, new video compression Intra frame and IPB, 1920x1080p full HD shooting at 24, 25 and 30fps, 1280 x 720p at 50 or 60 fps.

This is fantastic news for not only serious photographers but for serious video producers who are kitted out for DSLR shooting. The best bit about the news is it clears the way for November the 3rd being a video camcorder and dare I say it a large sensor film camera.

  1. Looks like the ducks nuts to me.
Glad to see an improved AF system even if it’s not useable in video mode. Canon UK press release states
“A new intra frame video codec also maintains the highest possible video quality, limiting compression of image data so users retain increased levels of information for post-production editing.”
If this is marketing speak for 50MB/s 10 bit 4:2:2 then well done Canon. You just ate Red Scarlet’s lunch and it’s not even November.
Who knows what the 5DMKIII will have up it’s sleeve but thankfully we may get a 2K DSLR that’s not prone to overheating, has manual audio control and decent weather sealing before we’re led done the 4K path.
