i am planning to buy an iPad since it looks lighter than a regular desknote and i don not use much of the features of a laptop.;~,

Far better options already exist, cheaper, more reliable, & easier to operate.

I’d rather touch real knobs, faders and buttons. They can be operated in the dark, too.

There is AU support in FCP. The interface is hobbled but it works. I disagree that it is useless. Sub-optimal yes, but quite usable.
FWIW- this type of control is currently available for the iPhone/iPod Touch with the app AC-7 Wireless DAW Control. And might work on the iPad from day one.

Audiounit support in FCP (like you have in Logic or Soundtrack )is first priority before using a touch device for audio in FCP.

It’s useless with current audio controls.

I have looked at Mackie and Euphonix but I still prefer the iPad version. FCPs audio is as you say basic and any serious sound tweaking should be done in Sound Track Pro or Logic Pro, remembering the iPad will also be able to switch fader sets to accommodate STP or Logic.

Or…just buy a Mackie Control for Logic which also works for Final Cut Pro…that’s what i do. It even gives you a working shuttle control and proper faders. It doesn’t make FCP’s audio side any better though..it really is bad. I do all my audio in Logic and then fly the final stereo mix back into FCP when it’s done.
